Internet Service Technician

Job Summary:

An Internet Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting wireless and fiber optic communications equipment, mounts and cables.  In addition, he/she will assist with special projects.  NCWCOM provides a supportive and collaborative professional work environment.

Job Type:

Full-time: Monday - Friday / 8 - 10 Hour Days
Weekend On-Call Rotations

Job Duties:

• Broadband wireless installations
• Fiber-optic (FTTH) installations
• Customer computer configuration
• Climbing ladders and roofs
• Working with power tools and equipment
• Driving to customer locations
• Communicating with customers on the phone and in person to provide broadband installation services
• Maintain positive image of NCWCOM and its affiliates
• Continually improve knowledge of equipment and technologies used by NCWCOM
• Complete project work, including off-site special event installations, etc.
• Assist other technicians
• Ensure thorough understanding and strict adherence to NCWCOM’s Safety Policies and Practices
• Identify all materials and other resources needed to complete the project
• Perform daily job-site safety inspections on equipment prior to operation
• Ensure supervisor is apprised of daily progress, concerns, and deviations from plans or established schedule
• Maintain proper use of company vehicles, credit cards and other assigned assets
• Pick up/delivery of supplies, tools, equipment, components, etc.
• Maintain clean, orderly environment adhering to company policies and industry regulation/standard(s) (OSHA)
• Use ladders, bucket trucks and climb to elevated heights working safely and effectively
• Pre-Work and Post-Work site audits; observe project sites for defects and safety hazards that may require attention
• Attend training and participate in certification programs as necessary
• Wear safety equipment: as per OSHA/MSHA/ANSI requirements including but not limited steel-toed, composite and/or metatarsal shoes, hard hat, required PPE for elevated work, fire retardant clothing, protective eye wear, etc.
• Safely operate a bucket truck
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment
• Ensure safety is always prioritized and adhered to including 100% tie off, proper methods and procedures, rigging, daily job hazard analysis (JHAs)
• Maintain positive image of NCWCOM and its affiliates
• Continually improve knowledge of equipment and technologies used by NCWCOM
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Skills Required:

Required:

• Willingness to learn; similar experience preferred
• Basic mechanical and technical skills, especially ladders and power tools
• Computer literate
• Patience and a customer-service driven attitude towards customer needs and expectations
• Good communication skills
• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable for company auto coverage
• Self-starter, with an independent work ethic, a positive attitude and willingness to learn and improve skills
• On-call rotation available (evenings and weekends every 6 weeks)

Desired:

• Satellite, antenna, cable and/or fiber optic installation experience
• Formal education in networking or electrical engineering
• Related trade school education
• First Aid Certification
• OSHA 10
• CPR Certification

Physical Requirements:

• Sit, stand, drive and climb for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry a minimum of 50 lbs. regularly
• May be required to work long and unpredictable hours during an outage situation
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background, fit for duty examination, and drug test (preliminary and random)
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, climb ladders and lift 50 lbs. (includes body weight, equipment, tools, and boxes).
• Must be able to pull his/her body weight plus equipment weight up a ladder repeatedly for long periods.
